In some ways, I still have one foot in 2014. One of the intentions I had for the year was to connect with people and to begin forging connections with them over coffees, pizzas, and hopefully laughter. These were my clients who trusted me with their wedding photography and cinematography. At other times, these were photographers and creatives whose work I’d been admiring and vice-versa
Writing messages to say ‘hello’ and to express what their work meant to me was getting out of my comfort zone. Sometimes it still is. But offering people a kind word about their work, how it inspires me to look at my own images differently and encourages me to be a better photographer has been one of the highlights of my year. Not only for the words received in kind but because of the conversations and meetings that have resulted
I did a lot of trekking and traveling in 2014; shot and scanned more 35mm film; experimented with printing; and connected over weddings, some of the best light, and the kindness of people who are no longer strangers. I’ll be doing a lot more of the same in 2015 in Vancouver and throughout British Columbia but also in Western Europe for the month of June. And, who knows where else?
A huge thank you to everyone who carved out some time for me, whether that was for your wedding, over coffee, a trek through the woods, or via an email or message. You helped in making my year a great one
2015’s shaping up to be interesting and it goes without saying that I’m very, very excited
