Hillary & Tim’s elopement on the Isle of Skye is easily one of the most memorable and intimate weddings we’ve ever photographed. We arrived in this formidable part of the Scottish Highlands after ten days of traveling from Glasgow to Glencoe and Kinlochleven and up and around the Isle of Mull. Taking the long route as we often do and what an adventure it was for us. Soon, we’d been arriving in Skye and meeting with two souls from Montana who, up until now, had been words, kind voices, and video footage across a computer screen
This was an incredible opportunity for us, one we understood as having its own challenges. In the world of (documentary) wedding photography when you’ve been summoned to a faraway place, it’s easy to fall into the ‘epic destination wedding’ trap and for a photographer to create images showcasing a beautiful location but falling short of conveying a story. The human moments, the synapses firing off between two people as they arrive at their ceremony site, the sacrifices that are part and parcel to that journey
For Hillary & Tim, we strove to document all of these things en route to Loch Coruisk, while there, and afterwards with the backdrop of the Cuillins, the chilled wind, and the Isle of Skye’s fading summer light. Doing our best to acknowledge this place was just as important as everything else that came together for their touching and adventurous elopement
All our love to you, Hillary & Tim. This was an experience we won’t soon forget
