When your best laid plans change and change again but all that really matters is getting married to your best friend of ten years. The pandemic has thrown a wrench into many couples’ wedding plans. Many have opted to postpone and celebrate at a later date. Some have decided to completely downsize and reimagine their wedding to celebrate their love this year. And others, like Sonya & Ilya, decided to celebrate their marriage in 2020, micro wedding style, with plans to host a bigger party next year.

Their parents’ backyard in Vancouver was the perfect setting for a micro wedding. A cozy backyard and keeping things intimate? Yes, please.

We laughed on a sun soaked rooftop in Mount Pleasant, strolled around their old stomping grounds at UBC, and set up a Zoom livestream for their ceremony thanks to Wagner & Co. They wore coordinated wedding outfits with pops of dusty rose, made popping open the champagne an Olympic sport, and most importantly, celebrated with their nearest and dearest.
